The Amplexus

One-of-a-kind handcrafted wood sculpture featuring beautiful high-alpine driftwood, sustainably sourced from the Colorado rockies. Amplexus gets its name from the Latin word for "embrace" or "interlocking," celebrating the intimate connection and balance between two contrasting elements. I handcrafted this piece around the striking dialogue between weathered, charred dark timber and warm, honey-toned grain as they wind around each other in a shared upward ascent. The fluid, sweeping curves reach skyward, creating a dynamic harmony of shadow and light. I anchored the intertwining forms on a low-profile, matte black base to give the organic structure a crisp, modern foundation. It serves as a commanding, balanced focal point—bringing a rich sense of story, contrast, and sculptural depth to a entryway console, executive desk, or art niche.
