The Volatus

One-of-a-kind handcrafted wood sculpture featuring beautiful high-alpine driftwood, sustainably sourced from the Colorado rockies. Volatus gets its name from the Latin word for "flight" or "soaring," capturing the sense of upward motion and dynamic freedom built into its avian silhouette. I handcrafted this wall-mounted piece to highlight the natural curve of the wood as it sweeps upward into a sharp, bird-like crest. Fine turquoise mineral inlays run along the natural fissures of the grain, adding a vibrant thread of color against the warm, organic tones of the timber. With integrated backlighting, the piece casts a soft, atmospheric glow onto the mounted black canvas panel, haloing the organic contours and casting dramatic depth against the wall. It creates a striking, ambient focal point designed to elevate a hallway wall, living area, or entry space.
