The Contortio

One-of-a-kind handcrafted wood sculpture featuring beautiful high-alpine driftwood, sustainably sourced from the Colorado rockies. Contortio means "twisting" in Latin, telling the physical story of resilience forged at 10,000 feet, where relentless alpine winds force timber to strain and bend without breaking. I crafted this freestanding sculpture from sustainably sourced Rocky Mountain driftwood to preserve that beautiful battle. The converging grain catches light and shadow perfectly, and I traced the natural contours with smooth taupe and turquoise inlays to accentuate the weathered fissures. It’s a great way to bring the untamed spirit and quiet strength of the high mountains into a contemporary or Southwestern space.
